Gifts from the Heart

Praise for Catholic Charities from Brian Williams, NBC News Anchor

“Wherever I’ve come across people suffering and dying, I’ve also found Catholic Charities right there standing alongside them, ministering and soothing, helping and healing, without regard for self. Every one of them a shining towering example of sacrifice and selflessness.  Let’s make that what people think of when they think of the Catholic Church in America.”

Basic Needs - most of us take them for granted until we don't have them.  Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Joliet provides these basics like food, clothing, and shelter.

Give a gift from the heart.  Make a donation in honor of a loved one, friend or colleague and we'll send them an acknowledgment telling them of your thoughtful gift on their behalf.

$20 - Fresh produce and milk for a family in need

Many families rely on the Community Services Programs at Catholic Charities to help with basic food needs.  Vouchers for fresh foods like vegetables and milk are often provided in addition to bags of non-perishable groceries because Catholic Charities believes in providing nutritious and healthy foods to low-income families that are struggling.

$35 - Toiletries and cleaning products for a low-income senior

Over 7,000 low-income seniors get help and hope from Catholic Charities.  Many of them, mostly women, struggle with day-to-day expenses like rent and food.  Items such as, Kleenex, lotion, shampoo and cleaning products are seen as luxuries, but we know they are really necessities that come last on the priority list.

$50 - 25 meals for the hungry at Shepherd's Table

Shepherd's Table serves over 50,000 meals each year to the hungry.  Some are men, some are women.  We often serve mothers and children, and sometimes even grandmothers and their grandchildren.  For some, the free noon-time meal is the only healthy and nutritious meal they get all day.

$140 - A week of shelter for a homeless person

It costs only $20 per day to provide warm, hospitable shelter to a homeless person.  Catholic Charities' Daybreak Center provides over 28,000 nights of shelter each year to men, women and children.
