“For I was hungry, and you gave me food . . .
What so ever you did for the least of my brothers and sisters,
You did it for me.” Matthew 25:35-41
At Catholic Charities we know this scripture passage well. It’s the backbone of who we are and what we do. It’s what has inspired many to help Catholic Charities and become partners in helping the poor. During the months of March and April we have a special opportunity to raise some funds for Shepherd’s Table and to provide food for our Emergency Services’ clients in the seven counties we serve.
Last year, we provided 226,000 meals to those who were hungry. We also spent nearly $30,000 on food vouchers so families could purchase fresh foods and milk in addition to the food boxes they received. This year, those requests have increased by more than 20%. Shepherd’s Table, our soup kitchen, saw a 64% increase in the number of people that came in for a free, nutritious meal. This year, volunteers are already helping us serve 4,500 meals each month. We need your help now so we can continue to feed the hungry and meet the increased request for food.
Alan Shawn Feinstein, a philanthropist dedicated to eliminating hunger in our country, has issued a challenge that says that he will add some of his own money for each donation we receive to feed the hungry. The more money we raise, the more of his money we will receive – and he has one million dollars to give away! Last year, we raised nearly $50,000.
Please send in a donation to feed the hungry between March 1st and April 30th. Please make checks payable to: Catholic Charities Hunger Fund. You can also click here to Donate Now or call Margaret at 815.724.1140 and she can process the transaction for you. Your gift will help feed the hungry in your community.
Bless you for your support of Catholic Charities. Together we are doing God’s work – and feeding God’s hungry children! If you can’t send a gift, please remember those who are hungry in your prayers.
