Volunteers are always welcome
at Catholic Charities!

In fact, without the help and support of volunteers we would never be able to assist 60,000 persons each year. The following is a list of staff that has been designated by their program directors as the persons responsible for answering inquiries from potential volunteers and/or volunteers groups interested in doing service projects.  Please direct all volunteer inquiries to them.

Want to volunteer for an exciting special or holiday event?  Look no further!
  • Back to School Fairs
Each year in August Catholic Charities hosts and coordinates fairs to help low-income families get their children ready to return to school.  Fairs offer free school supplies, immunizations, physicals, dental exams and more!  Planning for the fairs begins in January each year, but it’s never too late to call!

Please contact the following persons for more information:
In DuPage County, contact Mary Tarnow at 630.495.8008 x13
In Will County, contact Demetria Carr (Daybreak Center) at 815.774.4663

  • Holiday Programs
The holidays have a way of putting additional pressures on families everywhere.  Some of our neighbors find this season almost impossible to deal with both financially and emotionally.  Through these programs you can make the holiday season a joyful one for a family, a child, a senior by participating in one of the following programs:

Holiday Outreach Program
DuPage County
This program matches donors with low-income families who have already prepared a wish list based on their needs.  Each year the program meets the needs of over 700 families.  To get involved or become a donor, contact Mary Tarnow at 630.495.8008 x13.

Holiday Outreach Program
Will County
This program matches donors with low-income families from our Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.  Head Start serves over 700 families each year.  To get involved or become a donor, contact Judy Easley at 815.723.3405 x1108.

Daybreak Center Holiday Outreach Program
Will County
Daybreak Center is the largest shelter of its kind in Will County and provides emergency shelter for up to 100 persons each night.  This program matches donors with the needs of families and children in the shelter. To get involved or become a donor, contact Jennifer Wilsterman at 815.774.4663 x3122.

“Sharing the Warmth”
Kankakee County
This program matches donors with low-income seniors, most of them homebound, who have already prepared a wish list based on their needs.  To get involved or become a donor, contact Jennifer Wick at 815.933.7791 x138.

During the month of October numerous churches and schools participate in Catholic Charities' “Undy Sunday” – a drive to collect underwear, socks and pajamas for needy children and adults served through Catholic Charities.  Volunteers are needed to help coordinate the event, arrange pick-up and delivery of “undies” and assist office staff.  For more information, contact Sue Kaiser at 815.723.3405, ext 1139.

Volunteers are always needed for the committee that produces
one of the most fun and exciting events coordinated by Catholic Charities!

a dueling pianos extravaganza

Friday, October 10, 2008  6:30 p.m. to midnight

Ashton Place - 341 75th Street, Willowbrook

Tickets $75.00 per person

Casual attire

Includes open bar, incredible gourmet dining stations, fabulous entertainment, an amazing silent auction, and our inspirational “Miracles Live Auction!”  Open seating or reserved tables for groups of 8 to 10.

Famous for their antics and showmanship at Chicago’s Howl at the Moon, Tony Kidonakis and Andrew Blenderman combine their talents to provide a fun-filled, casual, high-energy, request driven, sing-along, clap-along, dance-along show with their dueling pianos.

Through your support of Playing for Miracles you can provide help and create hope for the children of Catholic Charities.  You can provide meals when they are hungry, specialized counseling so they can heal from abuse and neglect, shelter when they have no place to call home, and a warm to hand for them to hold when they are scared.

Truthfully, it’s not miracles they need; it’s help from Catholic Charities and you can make that possible. You can give each child we help a chance to feel good about themselves by attending this event, purchasing items from our incredible silent auction and bidding on “miracles”.

Examples of Live Auction Miracles:

  •  $20 can provide a healthy and nutritious meal for twenty children who come with their families to Shepherd’s Table, our soup kitchen. I’m sure you’ll agree that no child should ever have to experience hunger.

  • $50 can provide one week of warm and loving childcare for children whose parents are living in our Daybreak Shelter for the homeless.

  • $75 can provide emergency assistance funds so kids can have the basics – food, clothing and shelter.

  • $150 can provide specialized counseling for foster children who have been abused and neglected. Your gift may be the key to their future.

Catholic Charities programs serving children . . .

Foster Care, Adoption, International Adoption, Maternity Services, Daybreak Center (Homeless Shelter and Shepherd’s Table), Hope House, Transitional Housing, Head Start and Childcare, Counseling, and Emergency Services for basic needs.
